Can diet control Crohn's Disease?

People with Crohn’s disease often experience a decrease in appetite, which can affect their ability to receive the daily nutrition needed for good health and healing. In addition, Crohn’s disease is associated with diarrhea and poor absorption of necessary nutrients. As Crohn's suffers we can not absorb nutrients nor water. I highly recommend getting your vitamins though an IV treatment.  I do believe that the procedure is covered by insurance.  Either way, it is really the only way to ensure that you body is getting what it needs.  We also recommend that you ask your doctor to do a complete vitamin panel (blood work) on you.  Before you can correct any deficiencies, you need to know what you are deficient in.  The test will cover everything and will lay out exactly what you need or have to much of.  Also, a hormone test (also blood, saliva and urine) is necessary.  Again, these tests will show what parts of your system are being affected.

No special diet has been proven effective for preventing or treating Crohn’s disease, but it is very important that people who have Crohn’s disease follow a nutritious diet and avoid any foods that seem to worsen symptoms. There are no consistent dietary rules to follow that will improve a person’s symptoms. The best tip anyone can offer is to keep a food journal.  Because we are all different and live this disease differently what works for me may not work for you.  Document everything you eat and supplements/drugs you take.  When a flare-up does arise, you have better knowledge of any tweaks that need to be made.

I have a journal that I have made. If you would like a copy for yourself just email me.

God Bless~
